CFC - R11 Used in large, low pressure centrifugal chillers. This type of chiller provides a very large amount of chilled water for air conditioning purposes (office buildings, hotels, etc.) at the lowest operating cost compared to any other type of air conditioning system. R-11 centrifugal chillers operate in a vacuum on the low side. Air which leaks into these systems must be purged, and traditionally this meant that some refrigerant would be lost along with the air. New purge technology and better maintenance practices have reduced R-11 losses in these systems. |
